Gave up my 30 day B&H habit about 16 years ago.
I'd say it too me 6 months for the craving/thought of smoking to truly go.
Since then it hasn't bothered me in the least.
Have even tried one now an then and always stubbed it out after a couple of drags as doesn't do anything for me now.
I do miss getting a box of 200 at the airport though. Always a pleasing thing to take away on holiday..

I've given up drinking which has made it easier.
There's no way I could have a pub session without having a fag.

I don't think my cravings went as long as 3 weeks but for me cracking the first night down the pub without drinking did it for me. I forced myself to stay till closing and got drunk with no cigs, the next time I then went in the pub it was much much easier.
I also loved a smoke with a certain couple of mates kind of like association so I just didn't beer with them for a good month.

Packing up smoking is dead simple. I should know I have done it at least 25 times.... Only kidding!
I've been stopped for more than 20 years now. Well done all those that stop. It isn't so hard just don't keep thinking about it and don't ever succumb to a moment of weakness.

I'd give up on the Mahler if I were you. Going to the pub was always the killer for me. After a couple of pints I was out in the street stand around in the rain with a bunch of sodden Poles having a fag.

I think it depends on the person. Decided to give up when got the dreaded big C. Brought a E cig and for about a month I didnt look back, just stopped just like that :-) Didnt even really miss it at all, apart from when I went for a coupla pints with mates. Unfourtanetly, Ive been a bit of a twat, because went away for a few days a coupla weeks ago and forgot my e cig and smoked whilst I was away...yeah i know! Anyway knocking it on the head again, although funnily enough, my Oncologist didnt actualy have a problem with me having a few fags daily or a few drinks over the week, which i was surprised about...just not to over do it. Anyway good luck mate.

For me a week or two, although after a couple of beers a bit longer.
Ultimately though it was exercise that made me stop.
Find a sport that you love doing is my tip. It was rowing for me. The desire to get good at it can be very strong, and thanks to that I can't stand the thought of smoking now.
Still like the occasional bit of sensemilia though.

I gave up cold turkey, found it quite easy. Can't remember how many years it's been but not even the thought of smoking crosses my mind now. I don't think I ever really enjoyed it, so I don't miss it.

I am in the following camp. You will successfully quit smoking, no matter how you try, only once you have decided to do so. I tried many times over the years and always slipped back into the habit. I made the choice on December 3rd 2013 to knock it on the head once and for all and after about a week I had no problems because I knew I had made the right choice for me. I remember the date only because my most successful attempt was 8 months but I am now 17 months +. I don't miss it at all but I don't knock those who do smoke. I am very proud of myself as I never thought I would be able to quit. I don't think I will go back this time as there are too many positives for me to not smoke again. Best of luck to any of you who are trying.

Start running. I mean running ..... not jogging.
Best if you can get to an athletic track and jog the curves and sprint the straights.
You should try and do at least 12 laps. The burning sensation in your lungs, combined with imbibing huge gulps of oxygen will put you off smoking.
In a sense you are choosing fresh air over smoke.

The thought of a fag when sober makes me feel sick but I always crave one badly after a few drinks.
Thing is once I've had one I feel all light headed and weird.
But then straight away want another.
Most fucking pointless drug addiction in the world, smoking is.

I read three days before the physical side has done. Trouble comes when you've had a few beers. That goes on for a few years. But it goes away almost totally in the end.

Medically 24 hrs....mentally can take years...outreach week the cravings are further spread.

I used this too. Stopped as soon as I finished the book. I did start smoking again after leaving the Army for about a year but stopped again with no cravings since. I've been smoke free for at least two years.
